News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid reports of resumption of diplomatic relations between Canada and India, the US-based Khalistani organization 'Sikhs for Justice' (SFJ) has threatened to occupy the Indian Consulate in Vancouver.
The organisation is planning to storm the embassy on Thursday and has appealed to Indo-Canadian citizens to postpone their routine visits to the embassy on that day.
The SFJ also released a poster targeting India's new High Commissioner, Dinesh Patnaik. The organization claimed that the Indian embassy in Canada is spying and monitoring Khalistani activists.
What allegations is the Khalistani organization making?
"Two years ago, on September 18, 2023, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Parliament that an investigation was underway into the role of Indian agents in the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar," SFJ said in its statement.
Despite this, the organisation alleges that Indian embassies are spying and monitoring Khalistan Referendum activists. They claimed that the threat is so serious that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had to provide "witness protection" to Inderjit Singh Gosal, who took over the leadership of Khalistan Referendum after Nijjar's death.
Financial assistance from Canada
The SFJ says that through this occupation, they will demand accountability for espionage and threats on Canadian soil. A recent internal Canadian government report acknowledged that Khalistani militant organizations, such as the Babbar Khalsa International and the International Sikh Youth Federation, receive financial support from individuals and networks based in Canada.
Both organizations are designated as terrorist organizations under the Canadian Criminal Code. The report also stated that these extremist groups now operate as small factions, not directly affiliated with any larger organization, but actively supporting Khalistan.
Meanwhile, there has been no official statement yet from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs or the Indian Embassy in Vancouver.
