News Topical, Digital Desk : A Kerala court on Saturday sentenced a dance teacher to a total of 52 years in jail for repeatedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old student six years ago.

 

Thiruvananthapuram Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) judge Anju Meera Birla sentenced 46-year-old Sunil Kumar under the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. The sentences are to run concurrently, so Sunil will be imprisoned for 20 years.

 

The accused was fined Rs 3.25 lakh

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3.25 lakh on the convict and directed that if the amount is recovered from him, it will be given as compensation to the victim.

 

The child had gone to learn dance from the accused

The prosecution told the court that during the period 2017-19, the child had gone to learn dance from the accused. He had unnatural sex with the victim several times.

The prosecution said that the child eventually refused to take dance lessons. The child disclosed the incident when his parents decided to send his younger brother to the accused for dance lessons.
