News Topical, Digital Desk : Smoke was seen coming out of the engine of a private jet just before takeoff at the Kolkata airport, following which the plane was taken back to the taxi bay for a thorough inspection.

The pilot immediately informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) which directed him to stop and return to the taxi bay, officials said.

The situation was immediately brought under control

Airport officials at the Netaji Subhas Chandra (NSC) Bose International Airport immediately brought the situation under control, officials said. According to airport sources, the private jet carrying six passengers was approaching the runway for takeoff when the pilot of another aircraft noticed smoke coming from its engine.

Kolkata Airport Director C. Pattovi said the plane was thoroughly inspected, but no technical problems or signs of fire were found. Pattovi said the private jet was cleared for departure after a thorough inspection. The plane took off shortly after 11 a.m.

A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Kolkata had to make an emergency landing at the Kolkata airport on Sunday night after an engine failure occurred mid-air, officials said.
