Three types of prasad are prepared here, which are given to the devotees. But, the most amazing among these is the prasad made for a dying person.
It is said that Prasad is prepared here for the person who is on his deathbed. It is believed that by accepting this Prasad, the person's sins are destroyed and he attains salvation. Let us know how many types of Prasad are prepared here.
Makes three types of Prasad
There are three types of Mahaprasad in Jagannath Puri. The first is Sankudi Mahaprasad, which has to be consumed in the temple itself and devotees cannot take it home. It includes all types of offerings i.e. rice, lentils, vegetables, porridge etc.
The second type of Mahaprasad is called Sukhila, which consists of dry sweets. Devotees also bring this prasad to their homes and distribute it among family and relatives.
Apart from this, there is another prasad available here by the name of Nirmala Prasad, which contains dry rice. This prasad is specially made for dying people in Koili Vaikunth near the temple. It is believed that by accepting this prasad, the dying person gets salvation.
why is it called mahaprasad
It is said that when the Prasad is made, it does not have any fragrance. After this, it is taken to the temple of Mata Bimla Devi and offered as Prasad. Then this Prasad is offered to Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra in the main temple.
After this, as soon as this Prasad is brought out of the temple, it starts emitting fragrance. This is why it is called Mahaprasad. After this, devotees get it in the Anand Bazaar located in the temple.
