Mumbai Police: If you are afraid of digital arrest, then Mumbai Police has deployed Digital Rakshaks to protect you. This team will help you when you get a call from an unknown person and that person introduces himself as an officer of any state or any agency and gives you a notice of arrest. In such a situation, if you contact Digital Rakshak of Mumbai Police, then the police will immediately identify the reality of that person and alert you whether he is a real police or fake.
DCP Datta Nalawade of Mumbai Crime Branch told that Mumbai Police has started a helpline named Digital Rakshak which has two mobile numbers. The main purpose of this helpline for the people of Mumbai is that many times cyber thugs call people by pretending to be government officials like CBI, ED, Customs or police officers of any state and scare them that money laundering has happened from their account or a parcel has come in their name which contained drugs.
By saying this, they tell them that an FIR has been filed against them, by saying this they send them a copy of the fake FIR and along with it a warrant for arrest has been issued against them, by saying this also they send a copy of the warrant on WhatsApp.
Nalavade said that by talking like this, cyber thugs ask the victim to sit at one place and say that he has been put under house arrest, which is called digital arrest but there is no provision for such arrest in the law. If someone tells you like this, then do not believe him and understand that he is a cyber thug.
Not only this, if you want to verify, then call on the helpline named Digital Rakshak of Mumbai Police and send a copy of the warrant, notice and FIR on the given number, which Mumbai Police will verify and take further action. The helpline number of Digital Rakshak is 7715004444 and 7400086666
ABP News team reached the control room of this Digital Rakshak Helpline, where they spoke to senior police officer Dattaram Chavan, who told them that two police personnel and one officer have been deployed in this helpline who will receive the calls from the colleges and they will be saved before they get digitally arrested.
We have a system that whenever someone complains to us and sends a copy of the notice or warrant sent by cyber thugs on our WhatsApp number, we will immediately verify it by talking to the agency and tell us whether it is real or fake. Many times we have seen that after receiving such calls, the complainants get traumatized and get scared. In such a situation, we will even go to their home and stand with them. If any cyber thug tries to do anything like this, we will save them.
Chavan further said that the issue of digital arrest is very serious and if the statistics are to be believed, last year 195 cases of digital arrest came to light in which people were defrauded of Rs 137 crores whereas this year till now a total of 70 cases of digital arrest have come to light in which the complainants have lost Rs 76 crores.
