News Topical, Digital Desk : Tight Underwear Effects On Male Fertility: A question often arises regarding male fertility, whether wearing tight underwear affects fertility? With the help of many tests and studies, an attempt has been made to find out how tight underwear affects the testicles. Some time ago, a study published in the Human Reproduction Journal found that men who wear tight underwear had lower sperm count. However, experts are still discussing whether the reason for this is just tight underwear or the increased temperature around the testicles. Heat is a big factor, and tight clothes increase it further. Let us tell you about it.
What did the research reveal?
According to a 2018 report, researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the US, in a study of 656 men, found that men wearing boxers had a 25 percent higher sperm concentration than those wearing tight underwear. It's believed that the cooler temperature around the testicles may be the main reason for this. Experts say that even a simple lifestyle change, like changing the style of underwear, can improve male fertility. Sperm production is sensitive to temperatures above 34°C (92°F), which is why the testicles hang slightly away from the body.
Some underwear or briefs pull the scrotum closer to the body, increasing the temperature. Loose underwear, such as boxer shorts, keeps the scrotum cooler. In the largest study to date, researchers found that among men attending a fertility clinic, those who wore loose boxers had higher sperm concentration, a 17 percent higher total sperm count, and 33 percent more motile sperm than those who wore tight underwear.
How does tight underwear affect men?
Wearing tight underwear can make some people feel secure and fit, but when it becomes too tight, several problems can arise. The following effects of tight underwear can be seen in men:
Decreased blood circulation
Too-tight underwear restricts blood flow to the groin, which can cause numbness, discomfort, or long-term circulation problems.
Risk of skin irritation
The friction of the fabric increases, which can lead to rashes, redness, irritation and sometimes even painful cuts.
Effect on sperm production
Tight underwear increases the temperature of the scrotum, which affects the process of sperm production and can reduce fertility over time.
Restriction and discomfort in movement
Too-tight underwear can cause pinching, pain, and strain on movement, making it difficult to perform daily tasks or exercise.
increased risk of infection
Tight underwear traps heat and moisture, increasing the risk of bacterial and fungal infections.
pressure on the testicles
Tight fitting can compress the testicles, causing pain, strain, or even damage in the long run.
impact on posture
When underwear is too tight, the body's natural alignment can be disrupted, leading to lower back pain and poor posture.
increased sweating and odor
Reduced airflow leads to increased sweating and trapped heat, which increases odor.
Difficulty in physical activity
Tight underwear causes chafing and discomfort while playing sports or gymming, which affects performance.
risk of varicose veins
Wearing tight underwear for a long time increases pressure on the veins in the groin, which can increase the risk of varicose veins.
