News Topical, Digital Desk : Taking major action against cyber crime in the Civil Lines police station area of Rampur, the police has exposed an interstate cyber fraud gang. Acting on the basis of technical evidence and analysis of mobile, IMEI and IT Act, the police team has arrested 6 accused today from a commercial tower in Delhi.
According to the police, this gang defrauded people from different states through ATMs, checkbooks, bank passbooks, and UPI. The accused used online websites to lure people into transferring money, using part-time jobs, gaming, phishing, and social engineering, and then emptied the accounts.
A lot of material including laptop and mobile was recovered
In this operation, Rampur police recovered four laptops, 17 mobile phones, one Wi-Fi router, 270 ATM cards, 222 bank passbooks, and 47 checkbooks. Approximately ₹1.2 million in 35 bank accounts linked to the case has been frozen, while information on other accounts is being obtained from the relevant banks.
Big revelations are expected in the inquiry
According to officials, the arrested accused include individuals from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab. Police say the gang's network spans several states, and further revelations are expected based on the investigation. The entire operation was carried out by a joint team from the Cyber Cell and Civil Lines Police Station.
Police arrested 6 cyber criminals
Additional Superintendent of Police Anurag Singh said, "Our team uncovered an illegal cyber exchange operating in Noida Sector 143, which funneled money between different primary accounts. A total of six accused were arrested in the operation, and four laptops, 270 ATMs, 222 bank passbooks, 48 checkbooks, and 70 mobile phones were recovered from them."
According to the officer, these criminals used to take different accounts, operate them with fake numbers, keep moving money from those accounts, some used to move money from online betting and gambling and fraud, after which they used to take commission on the same and remained in constant touch with the cyber criminals.
