News Topical, Digital Desk : An Indian student has shared his experience of F-1 visa interview at the US Embassy in Hyderabad. The interview started with general questions like studies and university selection, but suddenly the visa officer started asking technical questions.

The student gave calm and clear answers, yet the visa officer rejected his visa and advised him to reapply. The student shared his experience on Reddit so that someone could give him the right feedback.

"My F-1 visa interview took place at the Hyderabad Embassy on May 30, 2025. The visa officer was a 30-year-old male. Unfortunately, my visa was rejected under section 214(b). I am sharing my experience to help me understand what went wrong and how I can do better next time," the student wrote.

Technical issues become a headache

The student said that the interview started normally, in which questions were asked about his studies and university. But suddenly the visa officer started asking technical questions. He was asked about the difference between array and linked list, as well as linear regression.

The student answered confidently, but the visa officer rejected the visa after asking questions about Indiana University Bloomington and his expertise in data science.

The student said, "I was surprised by the level of technical questions. I tried to keep calm and answer honestly, but I could not understand where the mistake happened.

Suggestions given by users

Several users on Reddit shared their experiences. "A visa denial under section 214(b) means that the visa officer did not believe you would return to your home country after completing your studies," one user wrote.

"Don't use the word 'industry-oriented'. If you have to, emphasize that you will work back in your home country," suggested another.

A third user said, "The officer asked general questions, maybe you got nervous. Apply again and answer confidently this time."

Many users advised the student to not lose hope and apply again. One user reiterated, "Avoid words like 'industry-oriented', or make it clear that you will work in India after studies."
