News Topical, Digital Desk : A tragic and shocking incident has emerged from the Bharmour Assembly constituency of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh. The nearly 200-year-old historic Gird Mata Temple, located in Gird village of Khundel Gram Panchayat, was engulfed in a massive fire on Friday (February 6). The sudden blaze engulfed the entire temple complex, completely destroying it.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene. They have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the fire. It is not yet clear what caused the fire.
Ancient temple gutted in fire
According to reports, a sudden fire broke out in the temple on Friday, reducing the ancient building to ashes. Villagers made numerous attempts to extinguish the flames, but were unsuccessful. The fire not only destroyed the temple building, but also caused irreparable damage to the ancient heritage within. Being a traditional wooden structure, the fire spread rapidly, and within a short time, the nearly two-century-old temple was reduced to a heap of rubble. The temple was not only a center of religious faith but also a cultural and historical landmark of the region. This incident has deeply shocked the entire area.

The heat of the fire damaged the idols made of marble and rare black stone. The temple's historic brass statues also suffered extensive damage. The ancient and rare cedar wood carvings have now been consigned to the pages of history. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
