News Topical, Digital Desk : Heavy rains continue in 10 states including the country's capital Delhi. It has been raining in Delhi since Thursday morning. This has affected normal life. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Madhya Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. In view of the IMD alert, all schools in Lucknow have been closed. Two people went missing while two others were injured due to a massive landslide near Ghattu Ghat on Rishikesh-Neelkanth road on Wednesday. Very heavy rains are also expected in Telangana on August 13-14.   

The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in Jammu and Kashmir during August 13 to 18. Issuing an alert, the Meteorological Department said that heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Travelers are advised to plan their travel carefully, especially in hilly and landslide-prone areas. Stay updated with the official channels of IMD for real-time weather information.

Landslide on Rishikesh-Neelkanth road

Two persons went missing and two others were injured after being caught in a massive landslide near Ghattu Ghat on Rishikesh-Neelkanth road in Lakshman Jhula area of Rishikesh on Wednesday. Station House Officer of Lakshman Jhula Police Station Santosh Paithwal said that the swollen Ganga river is flowing at a distance of fifteen meters from the spot and there is a strong possibility that both the missing persons might have fallen into the river after being caught in the landslide. The search for the missing persons is being done in both the debris and the river. The missing persons have been identified as Mushir of Mangalore in Uttarakhand and Ajit Pal of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Paithwal said that the injured persons are the driver and conductor of a truck carrying bricks from Haridwar, who had stopped their truck and were changing its punctured tyre and during this time they got caught in the landslide from the mountain. He said that both the injured were discharged after first aid.

325 roads closed in Himachal Pradesh

Several bridges were washed away in Shimla and Lahaul and Spiti districts following fresh incidents of cloudburst and flash floods in Himachal Pradesh, while more than 300 roads, including two national highways, had to be closed for traffic. Officials said a police post was washed away in fresh floods in Ganvi Valley, while a bus stand and nearby shops were damaged following heavy rains in Shimla district. Two bridges were washed away in these incidents, cutting off connectivity to Kut and Kyav panchayats of the district. Officials said no casualties have been reported so far. Floods were also reported in Kurpan Khad in Kullu. The local administration has advised people to stay away from Kurpan Khad and areas around Bagipul-Nirmand.

Due to rain in Himachal Pradesh, a total of 325 roads including two national highways have been closed for traffic. The Meteorological Department on Thursday issued an 'Orange Alert' predicting heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in three districts of the state, Chamba, Kangra and Mandi. The department has issued a 'Yellow Alert' from Friday to Sunday predicting heavy rains in isolated areas of four to six districts. 

Many flights from Hyderabad cancelled due to bad weather

Due to bad weather in Telangana, many flights to and from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport were cancelled or diverted. Airport sources said that airline IndiGo's flights to Kochi, Chennai, Patna and Ahmedabad and the return flights from here were cancelled. They said that 11 planes were diverted to other airports. Later, seven of these planes returned and reached Hyderabad by evening. IMD said that a 'red alert' has been issued for various parts of Telangana till Thursday. An official of the Meteorological Center told reporters that 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' has been predicted for many districts including Hyderabad and an 'orange alert' has also been issued for this.
