News Topical, Digital Desk : There is heavy rain in many districts of Uttarakhand. Due to the rain, landslides are also occurring in the mountains. Local citizens, tourists and pilgrims are facing a lot of problems. Due to the continuous heavy rains in the state, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced mock drills and inspections. In such a situation, special instructions have been given to the local officials. 

Disasters like floods, landslides and waterlogging

In line with the instructions of the CM of Uttarakhand, Director General of Police Deepam Seth has issued instructions to all the districts of the state to exercise special caution. The purpose of these instructions is to minimize loss of life during natural disasters like floods, landslides, waterlogging and to ensure quick and effective relief and rescue operations.

Guidelines issued to these officers

The Director General of Police has issued the following guidelines to all the District Incharges, including Commanders, Inspector General of Police Garhwal and Kumaon, Inspector General of Police SDRF, PAC, Fire and Emergency Services.

These things have to be kept in mind in the guidelines

  • QRT (Quick Response Team) deployed in all police stations, fire stations and police lines should be kept in active mode.
  • All disaster equipment (portable pumps, ropes, torches, life jackets, etc.) should be kept in working condition.
  • Wireless, control room, dial 112 and other communication media should be kept alert.
  • A team should be dispatched immediately to give a prompt response to any information.
  • Mock drills should be organised in all districts with agencies related to disaster management.
  • Senior police officers should themselves go to the field and inspect sensitive areas.
  • There should be continuous communication with the residents of the affected areas to alert them.
  • An appeal should be made through PA system and public announcement to stay away from rivers and streams and go to safe places.
  • Entry of tourists in sensitive areas should be restricted during the warning period.
  • In case of emergency, adequate police force should be deployed to immediately disperse the crowd in an organised and safe manner.
  • If necessary, the affected people should be safely shifted to relief centres.
  • Food items, medical assistance and other essential services should be provided in coordination with the local administration.

Mutual coordination should be reviewed to deal with heavy rains and any emergency situation. Necessary guidelines have been given while examining the preparedness of Dial 112 and the forces deployed in the field. IG Fire and Emergency Services Mr. Mukhtar Mohsin inspected the State Disaster Operation Center, Song River Pushta area, Doiwala Fire Station and the possible waterlogging area. 

Special instructions to police officers too

He has given instructions to remain alert at all places, keep equipment ready and alert residents in time. All SSPs/SPs have personally visited the area and given necessary instructions to subordinates.
