News Topical, Digital Desk : Asaram has again got relief from the Gujarat High Court. The court has extended the period of temporary bail for one month. This relief has been given on medical grounds. However, the court has also clarified that this is the last time the bail period is being extended.

During the hearing, a division bench of Justice Ilesh Vora and Justice PM Rawal extended Asaram's temporary bail for another month. Asaram is serving life imprisonment in a 2013 rape case. Asaram (86) is on bail on medical grounds.

The court granted bail on March 28

The court had first granted bail on March 28 and given it an interim extension till July 7 before the period expired on June 30. During the hearing in the court on Thursday, Asaram's lawyer requested for an extension of the bail period by three more months. However, the High Court said that it would extend the bail period for only one more month and this would be the 'final extension'.

Earlier, temporary bail was granted for 3 months

Asaram had approached the High Court when the interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court on medical grounds till March 31 was about to expire. The apex court had directed him to seek an extension if he needed it. The High Court bench had then given a split verdict, after which the case was referred to a third judge. The third judge had granted him temporary bail for three months.

Sentenced to life imprisonment by Gandhinagar court

A Gandhinagar court convicted Asaram in a rape case and sentenced him to life imprisonment in January 2023. Asaram is also serving life imprisonment in another case of raping a minor girl at his ashram in Rajasthan in 2013.
