News Topical, Digital Desk : Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers in the stock market on Monday. On May 26, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 135.98 crore. On Friday, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 1794.59 crore. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continued to support the market with a net purchase of Rs 1745 crore. According to provisional data of NSE, during the trading session of May 26, DIIs bought shares worth Rs 10,545 crore and sold shares worth Rs 8,799 crore, making the net purchase Rs 1,745.72 crore.

Similarly, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 9,081 crore and sold shares worth Rs 8,945 crore, making net purchases of Rs 135.98 crore. So far this year, FIIs have been net sellers of shares worth Rs 120858 crore, while DIIs have made net purchases of shares worth Rs 243,868 crore.

How was the market performance? The market got a boost in the first trading session of the week due to the premature monsoon. Sensex and Nifty closed with gains on Monday. Buying was seen in midcap and smallcap stocks. On the sectoral front, buying is being seen in auto, IT and FMCG stocks. Metal, realty and energy indices also closed on a rise. Nifty closed above 25,000. Auto and IT stocks saw a rise. The rupee saw great strength against the dollar on Monday. The rupee strengthened by 21 paise to close at 85.09.
