News Topical, Digital Desk : Hundreds of farmers and local residents are protesting today at the electricity department office in Sector 16, Noida Led by Sukhbir Khalifa, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, this protest is aimed at addressing the issue of electricity connections in the floodplains. Protesters say that millions of families living in the floodplains have been struggling for years without basic amenities like electricity and water, but the electricity department is taking no concrete action. Previous protests have been held, but electricity connections have not been installed, prompting another farmer-led protest today.

'Water supply disrupted due to power outage'

Protesters say that the lack of electricity connection in the flooded area disrupts water supply, affecting approximately two lakh working-class people. Therefore, farmers' unions and local residents gathered today to surround the Sector 16 power station.

'The workers in the submerged area did not get basic facilities'

Speaking to the media, Sukhbir Khalifa, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, said that 200,000 workers live in the flood zone and lack basic amenities. They should at least have access to water. How will they get water unless there's electricity? Last time we held a one-day protest, the chief engineer said we should get electricity.

'The protest will continue until the demands are met'

They said that even after a month, no action has been taken, which is why we are sitting here today. If necessary, we have considered the possibility of Delhi and Lucknow. We will continue our indefinite sit-in at the electricity department office until our demands are met. The farmers say that if a solution is not found soon, they will intensify their agitation. Currently, electricity department and police officials are working to convince the farmers.
