News Topical, Digital Desk : To empower the women of Delhi and make them more self-reliant, the Rekha Gupta government of Delhi has taken a big and important decision. According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, women are being allowed to work in night shifts in shops and commercial establishments. 

This decision will increase the participation of women in the workforce of this sector and will also promote ease of doing business. The Chief Minister says that strict provisions are being made for the safety of women employees, which include arrangements for transport during night duty, CCTV cameras, deployment of adequate security guards, etc. 

'Will help in creating a business hub'

He further said that in some states of the country, women are allowed to work in night shifts. According to the Chief Minister, this decision of the government will help in making Delhi a 24x7 business hub.

Proposal sent to LG

While giving information about this important decision, CM Rekha Gupta said that this proposal is being sent to Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena for his approval. This matter has already been discussed with the Lieutenant Governor. She said that to implement this decision, relaxation is being given in Delhi Shops and Establishment Act-1954. 

According to Sections 14, 15 and 16 of this Act, women are not allowed to work from 9 pm to 7 am (in summer season) and from 8 pm to 8 am (in winter season). But now this has been changed.

The Chief Minister further informed that women welfare is at the top of our agenda. We are working effectively to ensure the economic upliftment of working women through various schemes. 

Rules are already applicable in these states

According to CM Rekha Gupta, this exemption is already in place in Haryana, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu etc. Now it is being implemented in the country's capital Delhi as well, because the Delhi government considers women empowerment and self-reliance as the central priority of its policy.

It is necessary to take it in writing before night shift

He said that strict provisions (conditions) are being implemented to ensure that women do not face any kind of trouble or stress in allowing them to work in night shifts (24x7) in shops/commercial establishments. It will be necessary to take their written consent before putting women in night shifts, CCTV cameras, security guards and safe transport arrangements will be mandatory at the workplace.

A committee will be formed

Apart from this, the company will have to form an internal complaint committee under the Sexual Harassment Prevention Act (POSH Act) at the place where the woman works. Apart from this, facilities like rest room, toilet, locker etc. will also have to be provided for women. 

overtime pay included 

A rule has also been made that women should be paid their salary through bank/ECS. The conditions include providing all legal benefits like ESI, bonus, provident fund etc., weekly leave and overtime payment.
