Covid 19: New wave of Corona! Covid 19 cases increased again from Hong Kong to Singapore

Health officials in densely populated Hong Kong and Singapore have warned that due to the re-spread of the wave of Covid-19 in Asia, cases of Covid-19 are increasing rapidly.

The virus is spreading rapidly in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is experiencing a severe virus outbreak, Albert Au, head of the communicable disease branch of the city's Centre for Health Protection, told local media this week. He said the percentage of cases testing positive for COVID-19 has reached a year-long high.

Data from the centre shows that 31 severe cases were reported in the week ending May 3, the highest in the past one year.

The data shows a worrying rise in severe cases, including deaths, which have reached their highest point in almost a year. In the week ending May 3, 31 new cases were reported.

People admitted to hospital

However, this figure of infection does not match the peak of infection seen in the last two years. It is being told that more than 7 million people have been admitted to the hospital due to this virus related disease. 

What is the situation in Singapore?

Singapore is currently on high alert. The health ministry this month released its first update on infection numbers in nearly a year. The estimated number of cases in the week to May 3 rose by 28% to 14,200 compared to the previous seven days.
