News Topical, Digital Desk : Calcutta High Court has given a big order to Indian cricket team bowler Mohammed Shami. The court has said that Mohammed Shami will have to pay alimony of Rs 4 lakh per month to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and daughter during the legal battle. Calcutta High Court has given this decision on Tuesday. Shami's wife Hasin Jahan had approached the Calcutta High Court against the order of the District Sessions Court.
What was the order of the District Sessions Court?
Earlier, a sessions court had heard the case of Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan. After this hearing, the court had directed Shami to pay Rs 50,000 to his wife Hasin Jahan and Rs 80,000 to his daughter in the year 2023. However, Shami's wife Hasin Jahan had appealed against this order in the High Court.
What did the Calcutta High Court say in its order?
High Court judge Ajay Kumar Mukherjee has issued an order in this case. He said- "In my opinion, it would be fair and reasonable to pay an amount of Rs 1,50,000 per month to petitioner number 1 (wife) and Rs 2,50,000 to their daughter till the disposal of the main application to ensure financial stability of both the petitioners. However, in respect of the petitioner's daughter, the husband/respondent number 2 will always be free to voluntarily assist in her education and/or other reasonable expenses in addition to the above amount."
What is the controversy?
In March 2018, Hasin Jahan accused Mohammad Shami of domestic violence and also lodged a police complaint. Hasin Jahan also accused Shami of having relations with other women and match fixing. However, none of these allegations have been proved so far. Shami has rejected all these allegations and called them a conspiracy against him and his family. Hasin Jahan lives separately from Shami with her daughter. According to the information, the divorce case of both is ongoing.
