News Topical, Digital Desk : The Karnataka High Court has given relief to BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami. The court has put an interim stay on criminal proceedings against both of them.
The move comes on charges of spreading false claims of the Indian National Congress (INC) running for office in Istanbul, Turkey. The ban will remain in effect until the next hearing.
The stay will remain till the next hearing
Justice S. Rachia passed this order on Thursday while hearing the petitions filed by Malviya and Goswami, in which they had demanded quashing of the cases registered against them. This stay will remain in effect till the next hearing.
Amit Malviya, accused in another case
Notably, Malviya is also facing a separate case for a controversial internet media post in which he shared a morphed image showing half face of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi merged with the half face of Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir.
Comparison of Rahul Gandhi with Asim Munir
The post alleged that Rahul Gandhi was associating with Pakistan's narrative in the Operation Sindoor case. Both cases have now been stayed following petitions filed to quash them.
Complaints filed across the country
The Congress has filed multiple complaints across the country, including in Karnataka, accusing Malviya and Goswami of running a "criminal motivated campaign" aimed at spreading rumours that the Istanbul Congress Centre in Turkiye is an official Congress office.
