News Topical, Digital Desk : Protests have been ongoing in Pakistan for the past several days against support for the Gaza Peace Plan . Meanwhile, there are reports of clashes between protesters from the terrorist organization Tehreek -e- Labbaik Pakistan ( TLP) and police. It is reported that the clash occurred in Lahore during an anti- Israel march.

At least one officer and several protesters were reportedly killed in the clashes. Police used force to control the situation, including tear gas.

The city virtually came to a standstill on Monday after violent clashes broke out between police and Tehreek -e- Labbaik Pakistan ( TLP ) supporters marching towards the capital Islamabad .

Several people died in clashes between TALP supporters and police.

According to NDTV , Pakistan's Punjab provincial police chief, Usman Anwar , said protesters opened fire on officers, killing one officer and injuring others. However, he did not report any casualties among protesters. The militant group TLP said in a statement that several of its supporters were killed and several others injured. 

TLP made these allegations

The TLP said the injured included TLP chief Saad Rizvi , who reportedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds when authorities opened fire on protesters. Rizvi 's condition was reportedly critical.

Even before the alleged shooting, the TLP had shared a video on social media in which Rizvi is seen urging security forces to stop firing and saying they are ready for talks.

Meanwhile, another video  is going viral on social media showing several vehicles on fire. Among the vehicles burned is a truck carrying TLP activists. These vehicles belong to the protesters who led the " Long March" that began in eastern Pakistan on Friday. The march has resulted in violence between authorities and protesters ; and police arrested more than 100 people during a protest on Saturday.

Supporters wanted to hold a rally outside the US Embassy

The protesters were reportedly  determined to hold a pro- Palestinian  rally outside the US Embassy in Islamabad. Police opened fire when they tried to disperse the crowd.

Clashes between the TLP  and protesters erupted   on Monday  when demonstrators attempted to remove barricades erected by police  , according to a report by the AP news agency  . Supporters clashed with police in Lahore and later  camped in the nearby town of Muridke  before resuming their march.

It is noteworthy that  the TLP  gained prominence   in Pakistan's 2018 elections by campaigning solely on the issue of defending the country's  blasphemy law. The blasphemy  law provides for the death penalty for anyone deemed to be insulting Islam. Since then,  the TLP  has held numerous violent  rallies  . In particular  , it  has held numerous protests abroad against the desecration of Islam's holy book, the Quran.
