Chhath Puja is a four-day festival that lasts from the Chaturthi to the Saptami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of the Kartik month every year. It primarily worships the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. So, let's learn all the details, starting from its date.

Chhath Puja Calendar (Chhath Puja Auspicious Time)

  • October 25, 2025, Saturday – Bath and Eat
  • October 26, 2025, Sunday – Kharna
  • October 27, 2025, Monday – Evening Arghya
  • October 28, 2025, Tuesday – Usha Arghya

Nahay-Khay ( Nahay Khay 2025)

On this day, devotees bathe in a holy river or at home and wear new clothes. They then consume a sattvik meal consisting primarily of gourd, rice, and gram lentils. This meal marks the beginning of the fast.

Kharna (Kharna 2025)

Kharna is the second day of Chhath Puja. Devotees observe a waterless fast on this day. After sunset, a prasad of jaggery and rice pudding, puris, and fruits is prepared and offered to Chhathi Maiya. Devotees break their day's fast by consuming this prasad. Consuming Kharna prasad marks the beginning of a rigorous 36-hour fast.

Sandhya Arghya

This is the most important day of Chhath Puja, which falls on the sixth day of the bright fortnight of Kartik Shukla Paksha. On this day, devotees gather on the banks of a sacred river. They offer the first offering to the setting Sun God, adorned with traditional offerings including thekua, fruits, sugarcane, and other traditional offerings.

Usha Arghya and Parana (Usha Arghya)

Chhath Puja concludes on the final day, Saptami Tithi. On this day, devotees return to the Ganges River and offer prayers to the rising sun. This symbolizes worshipping the first rays of the sun. After offering prayers, devotees break their 36-hour fast by consuming prasad.
