In Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, it is considered the biggest festival of folk faith, celebrated with utmost purity and discipline. Every material has its own special significance in Chhath Puja. It is said that without the right and complete material, this puja is considered incomplete. Therefore, before starting the Chhath fast, a complete list of puja materials should be made so that no essential items are left at the last moment.

Complete list of Chhath Puja materials (Chhath Puja Samagri List)

  • Thekua – This is the most important Prasad of Chhath Puja, which is made from wheat flour, jaggery and ghee.
  • Rice Laddus – This is also included in the special offerings of Chhath.
  • Seasonal fruits – At least five or seven types of seasonal fruits, including banana, coconut (watery), apple, guava and citron, etc.
  • Sugarcane – Five or seven canes with leaves attached. They are also used to build a pavilion at the ghat. Sugarcane symbolizes prosperity and longevity.
  • Sweet potato and sweet potato – these are pure things that grow inside the ground.
  • Turmeric plant – The entire turmeric plant (including the bulb).
  • Betel leaf and betel nut – for use during puja.
  • Akshat - whole rice.
  • Two bamboo baskets (soop or daura) – one for sunset offering and the other for sunrise offering.
