News Topical, Digital Desk : H1-B visa appointments in India have been canceled on a large scale, leading to longer wait times and increasing difficulties for applicants. The cancellations have left applicants frustrated and uncertain about their plans.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Indian H-1B visa holders living in the US are postponing their plans to return home to renew their visas. H-1B visa holders are reportedly facing a longer wait to renew their visas, as visa stamping appointments at embassies have been delayed by up to 12 months.

Tech companies offer advice to employees

A Business Insider report stated that immigration firms representing Apple and Google have sent memos to employees advising them not to travel home for visa-related appointments, fearing significant delays. H-1B visa holders are reportedly advised to avoid all international travel.

Many major US tech companies, among others, have advised their employees to avoid international travel if they are already in the US. Meanwhile, a professional who works for a tech company arrived in India to find that his visa appointment had been postponed from December to April.

The Trump administration tightened the rules.

It's worth noting that the change in visa appointment dates is related to the social media screening policy implemented for H-1B and H-4 dependent visa applications. US officials stated that this new policy was necessary to protect the US from national security threats. However, due to this strict scrutiny, many applicants have received revised appointment dates to mid- to late 2026, and some have even received dates as late as 2027.
