News Topical, Digital Desk : More than 85 councillors are protesting in Lucknow Municipal Corporation in the case of a young man dying after falling into a drain in Thakurganj, Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Councillors from Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party and Congress are involved in the protest. All are opposing the contract to Ramky Company. Mayor Sushma Kharkwal and Municipal Commissioner Indrajit Singh left the corporation headquarters after the protest. Before the ruckus, a meeting was going on with all the councillors, mayor and municipal corporation officials.

The meeting was called by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal. On the spot, the councillors raised questions on the road length and survey process. The councillors claim that the Mayor assured to get the road length surveyed. After this, the meeting ended, but a ruckus started when the councillors were not heard. The councillors allege that the Municipal Corporation officials are working as agents for Ramky.

On the other hand, Inspector Thakurganj Shrikant Rai, who had filed a case against local councilor CB Singh in the case of a youth dying after falling in a drain, has been suspended. After filing a case against the councilor, many councilors had staged a sit-in protest at the Municipal Corporation headquarters. Mayor Sushma Kharkwal had asked the mayor to dismiss the inspector within 24 hours. According to the mayor and councilor, the case was written in an unconstitutional manner. Taking action on the case, Lucknow Police has suspended Inspector Thakurganj and sent him to the police line. On the evening of the incident, the police had dispersed the crowd using mild force, in which the wife of the deceased Suresh was injured.
