A court-ordered prison marriage is rare, but it is possible. As happened in March 2025 in Siwan district of Bihar, where a young man booked for kidnapping was ordered by the court to marry his girlfriend in Hindu rituals under tight security in prison. Such orders are given when a couple decides to live together and the court can order marriage to ensure that their relationship is based on mutual consent.
