News Topical, Digital Desk : In 2026, the auspicious festival of Vasant Panchami is set to celebrate the worship of Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and art. The yellow mustard all around and the new form of nature captivate the mind. However, ancient texts like Dharma Sindhu and Skanda Purana clearly warn that making certain mistakes on this day will not yield the fruits of worship but may incur "Vidya Dosh." Often, despite our devotion, we unknowingly make mistakes that could displease Goddess Sharada.

Let us know about the mistakes that you and your children should avoid-

1. Avoid wearing black clothes

Vasant Panchami is also known as the "Yellow Festival." According to astrology and traditional beliefs, one should avoid wearing black or red on this day. Black is considered a symbol of negativity and mourning. Goddess Saraswati loves yellow and white. Therefore, wearing yellow clothes during the puja is considered best to attract positive energy.

2. Disrespect of pen and books (Vidya Dosha)

The biggest mistake people often make on this day is disrespecting their study materials. Scriptures state that pens, books, or musical instruments should not be stepped on on Vasant Panchami. Doing so directly invites "Vidya Dosha." In many regions, it's a folk tradition that students worship their books on this day but abstain from studying, so as to give knowledge rest and respect.

3. Control over speech and rules of eating

Goddess Saraswati is also known as "Vak Devi" (Goddess of Speech). Religious scholars believe that one should avoid swearing, quarreling, or lying on this day. If you use harsh or abusive language on this day, it is believed that Goddess Saraswati will not reside on your tongue.

Furthermore, according to the rules of a sattvic diet, meat, alcohol, or onion and garlic should not be consumed at home on Vasant Panchami . Only sattvic and pure food maintains the sanctity of this day.
