The Somali army carried out several airstrikes in central Somalia. 12 Al Shabaab terrorists were killed in these airstrikes and 35 other Islamists were killed by the army in the south-western region. It is being told that these terrorists were trying to attack the military base.

The airstrike late Wednesday came hours after fighters from the al-Qaeda-linked group attacked a strategic town in the region, which has been waging an insurgency since 2007. Al Shabaab, which seeks to seize power and rule based on its strict interpretation of Islamic law, seized villages within 50 km (30 miles) of Mogadishu last month, raising fears among residents of the capital that the city could be targeted.

Terrorists targeted these places

Somalia's government said several senior al Shabaab fighters were among those killed in air strikes by Somali forces and United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in the central Aden Yabal district.

"The targeted attack hit a place used by terrorists for gathering and hiding... Importantly, there were no civilian casualties," the Information Ministry said in a statement on social media platform X.

The army killed 35 fighters

In a separate incident, the national army killed at least 35 fighters near the town of Baidoa, the ministry said. On Wednesday, heavy fighting took place in the town of Aden Yabal, which lies some 245 km (150 miles) north of Mogadishu and has been used as an operational base for raids on al Shabaab.
