Ghaziabad News: A local court in Ghaziabad has declared the election of a municipal councilor as void. District Government Advocate (Civil) Vipin Tyagi said on Friday that the court of Additional District Judge Indu Dwivedi on Wednesday declared the election of Ritu Chaudhary, who was elected as a councilor as an independent candidate from ward number 35 (Akbarpur-Behrampur), void.
He told that this order was given in the court on a petition filed by a person named Pintu Singh. He told that Singh was also a candidate from Akbarpur-Behrampur ward in the municipal corporation elections held in 2023 and he lost the election by only 23 votes.
Tyagi said that the petitioner had made several allegations including hiding the details of property in the affidavit filed along with the nomination papers, which were found to be true. He said that the election of ward number 35 will be held again, the date will be announced by the District Election Officer.
Tyagi said that the court has also directed the Ghaziabad District Magistrate to take necessary action against the Returning Officer for negligence in duty.
After the cancellation of the election, it is believed that Ritu can approach the higher court. If she does not do so, then there are chances of re-election on this issue.
