The Palestinian organization Hamas has accepted the draft agreement for ceasefire in Gaza. Now Israel's stand is awaited. If the Israeli government accepts the draft agreement, then the ceasefire can come into effect in a few hours and the process of releasing hostages and prisoners will begin.
Israel has not taken a final decision yet
Qatar, which is usually cautious in reacting, has said that both the parties are closest to reaching an agreement. Egyptian and Hamas officials have confirmed that the agreement has been accepted by the Palestinian organization. While a top Israeli official said that his government is positive about accepting the draft but a final decision is yet to be taken.
Biden wants to take credit for the ceasefire
The acceptance or rejection of the draft agreement will be announced only after the Israeli cabinet considers it. America, Egypt and Qatar have been trying to stop this war that has been going on for the last 15 months. Now that Joe Biden's presidential term in America is ending on January 20, he is trying to get the credit for stopping the war in Gaza to his (Biden) government.
However, the elected US President Donald Trump has also given Hamas time till January 20 to release the hostages. He has said that if the hostages are not released then West Asia will have to face dire consequences.
