Washington. The changing China is challenging America in many areas and in some areas it is leaving it behind. The latest case is related to the development of high-tech nuclear power. China has left America behind in this government-backed technology development plan.

China is 15 years ahead of America

Based on the latest data, experts estimate that China is 15 years ahead of the US in terms of setting up high-tech nuclear power plants. A report by an American research institute named Technology and Innovation Foundation was made public on Monday.

China is rapidly building nuclear reactors

At present, construction of 27 high-tech reactors is underway in China. The average time taken for their construction in China is seven years which is the shortest as compared to any other country. Meaning, the construction of nuclear reactors is going on at the fastest pace in China. Not only this, the nuclear power plants under construction in China are based on the most advanced technology till date. Due to this, China has become the leader in the world in producing more and safe nuclear energy at low cost. At present, America has the highest number of nuclear power plants.

The US government is considering this matter

The US government is seriously considering increasing electricity production completely free of harmful gases, but its two nuclear power plants in the state of Georgia are starting up in 2023 and 2024 only after years of delays and billions of dollars in cost overruns. At present, not a single nuclear power plant is under construction in the US.

Work was going on in the laboratory on a plan to set up a plant based on high technology, but that too was stopped in 2023, while the situation is different in China. There, government banks are giving loans at the rate of 1.4 percent interest for the development of nuclear plants. Apart from this, government institutions are also providing many types of facilities and support for setting up nuclear plants.

What did the China Nuclear Energy Association say?

China is striving to develop nuclear energy just as it has become a pioneer by making efforts in the development of pollution-free power plants and e-vehicles. In this regard, China has started using the fourth generation gas-cooled reactor Shidao Bay in December 2023. China's Nuclear Energy Association has said that this is the world's first plant based entirely on local products. In this, 93.4 percent of the equipment and materials used were from China itself.
