The story of Lord Krishna's 16,000 marriages is found in the Vishnu Purana. According to the legend, once a demon named Narakasura had held 16,000 princesses captive, then Lord Krishna killed Narakasura and freed them all, but those girls have not been accepted back into society, because they were held captive by Narakasura.
