Voices are being raised across the world against the attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. US MP Brad Sherman has said that it is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to protect the people of the Hindu community living in the country.
The situation there is not good after the removal of the democratically elected Sheikh Hasina government. British MP Priti Patel has also strongly condemned the attacks on the people of the Hindu community in Bangladesh. She has described these attacks as insensitive and frightening.
Appeal for US intervention
Earlier, Hindus of Bangladeshi origin living in America had demonstrated in front of the White House demanding the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh and the release of religious leader Chinmay Das. They had urged America's intervention in the situation in Bangladesh.
Hindus should get security in Bangladesh
MP Sharman said, "It is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to listen to the voice of thousands of people of the Hindu community who are talking about the attacks and atrocities on them. The government should provide them adequate security." The US MP also demanded from the head of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Volker Turk, that the attacks on the people of Hindu, Buddhist and Christian communities in Bangladesh be investigated. These attacks took place during the nationwide violence to remove the government of Sheikh Hasina in August.
Priti Patel, the Member of Parliament in charge of Foreign Affairs in Britain's opposition Conservative Party, has urged the Bangladesh government to protect the right to religious freedom of Hindus. She said that the continuous attacks on Hindus are creating an atmosphere of instability and insecurity in Bangladesh, and this situation will prove fatal for it.
The situation in Bangladesh is a matter of concern for everyone, so the government there should, without any delay, immediately provide adequate security to the Hindu minorities, ensure the safety of religious places and take action to punish the attackers.
