Two people, including a woman, were killed and nine others injured in a militant attack in Manipur's Imphal West district on Sunday. The woman's daughter and a police officer N. Robert were among the injured.

Police said the militants opened indiscriminate fire from the hilly areas towards the valley areas of Kotruk and Kadangband. The militants also hurled bombs. Of the nine injured, five have bullet injuries while others have received shrapnel from bomb blasts. Several houses were also damaged due to the shelling.

 

The state government condemned the attack

The deceased woman has been identified as Ngangbam Surabala Devi. The woman's body has been taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post-mortem. The second deceased has not been identified yet. The state government has condemned the attack on the villagers.

The Home Department said in a statement, 'The state government has come to know about the incident of attacking unarmed villagers with drones, bombs and sophisticated weapons. In the attack, two people including a woman were killed by the Kuki militants. The state government takes such acts of terrorizing unarmed villagers seriously.'

 

The government said – efforts are on to bring peace

The statement said that the government is making every effort to bring normalcy and peace in the state. This act is being considered an attempt to derail the efforts to establish peace in the state.
