The video of a unique wedding in a university in West Bengal went viral on social media. A senior female professor of the university married a student in the classroom and the entire video of this formal wedding went viral on social media, which led to a huge controversy and a committee was formed to investigate the incident. The committee confirmed the incident and after this, the professor has offered to resign citing her inability to continue her relationship with the university. A senior university official gave this information on Tuesday.

The professor married the student

The head of the Department of Applied Psychology at the Government Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), a female professor, married a first-year student of her department inside a classroom as per Hindu Bengali rituals and the video clip of the wedding ceremony went viral on January 28, causing an uproar. After this, MAKAUT Registrar Partha Pratim Lahiri told PTI that the professor had sent an email to his office in which she said that due to this video, I am very upset and unable to come to college.

Registrar Partha Pratim Lahiri said, "The professor has mentioned the incident and thanked MAKAUT for giving him the opportunity to work with the institution for the last few years." He said that after the video went viral, the professor was sent on leave till February 1, after which he himself sent an email saying "We will inform you of our decision at the right time."

The video clip went viral

The video clip, which shows the teacher in full bridal attire, was shot inside a classroom at the Haringhata campus in Makaut in the state's Nadia district. The professor had claimed that it was a play performed as part of a psycho-drama project, which was staged with the consent of the students and the university. She also alleged that a portion of the play was deliberately leaked by one of her colleagues who wanted to defame her and ruin her career.

The investigation panel submitted its report

The teacher had said that she would take legal action to compensate for the damage caused to her social and academic reputation. The female academic was asked to go on leave by MAKAUT on January 29. Another university official said that the university had constituted a five-member inquiry panel, all of which were female faculty members, and the panel in its findings rejected the professor's claims of the video being part of a psycho-drama project to document the incident and justified it.
