Uttarkashi Masjid Controversy: The ongoing dispute over the Jama Masjid in Uttarkashi has now reached the Uttarakhand High Court. The Minority Service Committee has filed a petition regarding the security of the mosque. The petition states that the mosque is legal and was built on land purchased in the year 1969. The committee has also alleged that some organizations are threatening to demolish the mosque, calling it illegal, which is creating an atmosphere of tension.

Hearing the petition, the division bench of the Uttarakhand High Court, which included Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal, has directed the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police to ensure the security of religious places. Along with this, the Director General of Police (DGP) has been asked to file a reply in the matter.

Provocative speeches should be banned.
The Minority Service Committee said in its petition that since September 24, some organizations have been agitating against the Jama Masjid, calling it illegal. These organizations have announced to organize a Mahapanchayat on December 1. The petitioner has demanded that this Mahapanchayat should not be allowed, as there is a danger of peace being disturbed in the area. The petition also states that some people are making provocative statements, which is a violation of the Supreme Court order. The Supreme Court has given clear instructions that provocative speeches should be banned.

The land of the mosque was purchased in 1969.
The petitioner has demanded that the government ensure the safety of the mosque and take strict steps to prevent any kind of violent act. The petitioners said that the mosque was built in 1969 after purchasing the land. The Forest Department and the District Administration have also confirmed this. Despite this, some organizations have called the mosque illegal and demanded its removal. On the other hand, Hindu organizations claim that the mosque has been built illegally on government land. These organizations organized rallies regarding this. There was also an incident of stone pelting during a rally, after which the tension increased further.

Peace and order affected by provocative statements
The ongoing dispute over the mosque has created tension in Uttarkashi. The petitioners say that the peace is being affected by the inflammatory statements being made by some organizations. The High Court has directed the local administration to take strict measures to ensure the safety of religious places. In the next hearing of the case, a report on the situation will be presented by the Director General of Police.
