Dehradun News: Dehradun Police has achieved a major success on the occasion of Diwali and Dhanteras. Police have recovered 300 kg of adulterated (synthetic) mawa and arrested one accused. This action has been taken to ensure food safety in the city, where adulterators compromise the quality of food items during festivals.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dehradun had issued strict instructions to check adulterated food items coming from outside states in view of the festivals. Under this, intensive checking is being done in all police station areas. In this sequence, Kotwali Nagar Police conducted a checking campaign at night.

Adulterated mawa destroyed
Police stopped a silver coloured Indigo car (UK07AE2197) at Singhal Mandi trisection and searched it. About 300 kg of adulterated mawa was recovered from the trunk of the vehicle. During this, the Food Safety Officer was called on the spot, who inspected the mawa and prima facie declared it to be synthetic. After this, samples of mawa were taken and the remaining material was destroyed.

The arrested accused Amit, who is a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, told during interrogation that he wanted to bring this mawa from Rampuri, Muzaffarnagar and sell it at a higher price in Dehradun. There was a plan to supply it to various reputed shops and dairy centers on the occasion of Diwali. The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 274 and 275 of the Indian Justice Code 2023. The items recovered in this action include 300 kg of adulterated mawa, the Indigo car used in the incident, and a mobile phone.

This case is a warning for food safety and public health. This effort of the police is important to thwart attempts of adulteration during festivals like Diwali. The public has been advised to be cautious of such adulterators and inform the police about any suspicious food item. This campaign of the police is a symbol of the fact that it is serious about the health of the public and will continue to take strict action against adulteration.
