Former Congressman Matt Gaetz on Thursday withdrew his nomination for the post of US Attorney General under the Trump administration. He was facing strong opposition from the Democratic Party as well as his own Republican Party.
Getz said this
Former Florida Congressman Gaetz made this announcement a day after meeting senators on Capitol Hill. He said, I had a very good meeting with senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful approach. Many of them also supported me incredibly. However, my position was strong. But it is clear that my confirmation was improperly hindering the important task of Trump's transfer of power.
Gaetz is also disliked by many fellow Republicans because he plotted to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last year, throwing the House into chaos for several weeks. Republicans in the Senate were angered by the idea of being asked to vote on Gaetz without seeing the findings of the House Ethics Committee's investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct.
No experience working in the Justice Department
Gaetz was nominated for attorney general last week and has never previously worked in the Justice Department or served as a prosecutor at any level of government. He was investigated by the FBI for nearly three years for possible sex trafficking violations, an investigation that ended last year without charges.
Trump chooses Sean Duffy as Transportation Secretary
America's newly elected President Donald Trump has chosen Sean Duffy for the post of Transport Minister. Duffy has been a member of the Wisconsin Parliament. He is the presenter of Fox Business News. At the same time, Trump can choose Howard Lutnick, CEO of financial company Cantor Fitzgerald, as Commerce Minister. This ministry can become Trump's weapon to challenge China's tech sector.
Trump on Monday nominated Duffy as Transportation Secretary, saying he would prioritize excellence and beauty in rebuilding America's highways, tunnels, bridges and airports. He would ensure that the nation's ports and dams boost the economy without compromising national security.
