The appointment of Tulsi Gabbard, the first non-Indian Hindu leader, as the director of the US National Intelligence Agency by the newly elected President Donald Trump is being seen as a sign of a big change in traditional American politics.
Gabbard, who has deep faith in the traditions and customs of Hinduism, has not only been a strong supporter of further strengthening the existing strategic relations between India and America, but from time to time she has also spoken openly about Hindu interests. Under her leadership, cooperation between India and America against terrorism is likely to increase. In fact, cooperation between the two countries is constantly increasing in this area.
Tulsi fully embraced Hinduism
Tulsi Gabbard was born in American Samoa (an island of America's possession in the South Pacific Ocean) and her mother Carol Gabbard was inclined towards Hinduism. She has given Hindu names to her children. By the time she reached adolescence, Tulsi completely embraced Hinduism.
She has served the Army National Guard for two decades. Gabbard entered politics at the age of 21. She became the first Hindu member of the House of Representatives. After this, when she was elected to Congress, she took oath with her hand on the Gita. In an interview, she described the Gita as her lifeline.
She emerged as a staunch supporter of President Trump
In the year 2020, she also presented her candidature for the post of President on behalf of the Democratic Party. But when it became clear that Kamala Harris would be made the representative from the Democratic Party, she backed out. Later she emerged as a staunch supporter of President Trump.
On Trump's appointment of her as the head of the US National Intelligence Agency, Gabbard said late Wednesday night, "Thank you, President Donald Trump, for giving me the opportunity to work for the security, defense and freedom of the American people as a member of your Cabinet."
Gabbard advocated giving special priority to relations with India
Gabbard has always advocated giving special priority to relations with India in the past. On many occasions, she has openly supported India's interests. When India presented a proposal to celebrate International Yoga Day in the United Nations, Gabbard was the first to support it. Later, Gabbard also met Modi during his visit to America and also gifted him the Gita.
When Hindu religious places were attacked in America, she protested against it. Recently, she raised her voice on the internet media when temples were attacked in Bangladesh. Tulsi also has very strong views against Pakistan and the terrorist organizations supported by it.
It should be noted that America's new NSA Mike Waltz also has similar views about Pakistan's terrorist connections. It is believed that the new NSA and the new Director (American Intelligence) may put pressure on Pakistan to stay away from terrorism.
