A case has come to light regarding UFC veteran fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov. According to the information received, former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov was deboarded from a Frontier Airlines flight at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas because there was a dispute with the airline staff over his seat.
A video of the incident, which the fighter described as "inappropriate", has gone viral on social media.
Nurmagomedov shared details about the incident in a post on Instagram on Monday.
He posted on X and said, First of all, I want to clarify that this was @FlyFrontier and not AlaskaAir. The lady who came to me with the question was very rude from the start, even though I speak very good English and can understand everything and agreed to assist, she was still insistent on removing me from my seat.
The altercation began when Nurmagomedov was approached by a flight attendant and questioned about his ability to assist other passengers in an emergency. This is a standard requirement for passengers seated in the exit row. However, Nurmagomedov said that despite his willingness to comply, he was treated rudely from the start.
In a video recorded by a fellow passenger, the flight attendant can be heard saying, “We cannot allow you to sit in the exit row... I am not going to do all this back and forth. I will call a supervisor. You can either take another seat or we can go ahead and take you off the plane.”
The 36-year-old fighter responded, saying, "That's not fair" and explained that he had followed the onboarding process completely. "When I was at check-in, they asked me, do I know English... and I said yes. Then why do you guys do this?"
Despite his protests, the airline staff insisted on either shifting him to another seat or deboarding him from the flight. After a brief argument, security personnel were called and Mr Nurmagomedov was taken off the plane.
After two minutes of conversation, she called security and I was taken off this plane. 1.5 hours later, I boarded another airline and left for my destination. I tried my best to stay calm and respectful, as you can see in the video. But those crew members should treat their clients well, Mr Nurmagomedov said.
Mr Nurmagomedov, one of the greatest fighters in UFC history, retired from mixed martial arts with an undefeated record of 29-0. He was reportedly heading to California to support his teammates ahead of UFC 311.
The event in Los Angeles will feature two title fights between his protégé Islam Makhachev, who will defend his lightweight title against Arman Tsarukyan, and Umar Nurmagomedov, who is set to challenge Merab Dvalishvili for the bantamweight championship.
