Indian-origin American astronaut Sunita Williams has been stuck in space for several months. Now President Donald Trump has sought help from Elon Musk to help her. Elon Musk has posted about this on X.

Elon Musk said US President Donald Trump had asked him to facilitate the early return of two Boeing Starliner astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have been on the space station since June 2024.

NASA had involved SpaceX

The SpaceX CEO claimed it was terrible that the astronauts were left stranded at the International Space Station (ISS) for so long by former President Joe Biden's administration, even though NASA had engaged SpaceX several months earlier to bring back the two astronauts as part of its Crew-9 mission.

NASA has consistently maintained that the astronauts are not stranded and are in good health and connected to other people.

Tried to bring it several times?

  •  Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams departed for the ISS in June 2024 aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft.
  • The flight, which was intended to last only 10 days, encountered many difficulties.
  • After arriving at the space station, NASA and Boeing worked for weeks to better understand the problems with the spacecraft but ultimately decided it was too difficult to return the Startliner with a crew.

The space agency had announced

In August 2024, the space agency announced that it had asked SpaceX to bring Williams and Wilmore home on the SpaceX Crew-9 capsule. Both astronauts were placed on Crew-9, with NASA removing two of the four crew members who were scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Dragon in September.

Instead, only one astronaut and cosmonaut were loaded on that flight to make room for Williams and Wilmore, who were set to return home at the end of the expedition in February 2025.
