It will take time to restore the sewage system

"We are giving our first priority to saving the driver's life. We have urged people to avoid unnecessary use of water for bathing and washing clothes. It is difficult to avoid using the toilet. But use as little water as possible," a Saitama Prefecture official told AFP on Thursday.

In the statement, the official said that rescue work is facing difficulties. Due to this, it may take time to restore the sewage system. Some sewage water has been collected in the area. On Wednesday, it was released into a nearby river.

Order to vacate 200 houses

Japanese authorities have ordered the evacuation of 200 nearby homes. In fact, the sinkhole is getting wider. A 74-year-old truck driver was last seen inside the sinkhole on Tuesday.

According to media reports, the truck driver's cabin is buried under mud and debris. The size of the sinkhole has also doubled. Initially, this sinkhole was 33 feet wide and five meters deep. The ground around the sinkhole is continuously sinking. Due to this, both the sinkholes have merged together. Its size has now become 20 meters wide. There is also a gas pipeline in the sinkhole. It is feared that leakage may start in that too.
