A small plane carrying oil company workers crashed in South Sudan's Unity State on Wednesday. 20 people, including an Indian, were killed in this accident. There were 21 people on board the plane, including two pilots. Information Minister Gatwech Biple said that the accident occurred when the plane took off from the oil field for the capital Juba.
The passengers on board the plane were oil workers of the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC), a joint venture between China National Petroleum Corporation and South Sudan's state-owned Nile Petroleum Corporation. President Salva Kiir said the dead included engineers and technical staff. The cause of the accident was not yet known.
