Former bureaucrats and diplomats have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Ajmer Sharif Dargah case. They have demanded PM Modi to intervene and stop these activities. They say that this is an ideological attack on India's civilizational heritage.

This distorts the idea of an inclusive country. PM Modi alone can stop this, the letter said. The former bureaucrats also reminded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had sent chaadar on the occasion of the annual Urs of 12th century Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

He wrote a letter

Nearly half a dozen former bureaucrats and diplomats, including former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, former High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom Shiv Mukherjee, former Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi, former Deputy Army Chief Lieutenant General Zameeruddin Shah and former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Ravi Vir Gupta, wrote the letter to the Prime Minister on November 29.

'Courts are showing readiness'

The letter said that despite the clear provisions of the Places of Worship Act, the courts also seem to react to such demands with unnecessary readiness and haste. It also said that it seems unimaginable that a local court orders a survey at the dargah of the 12th century Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. This dargah is one of the most sacred Sufi sites in Asia not only for Muslims but for all Indians who are proud of our syncretic and pluralistic traditions.

This is an attack on our heritage

The letter also said that it is laughable to imagine that a fakir, who was an integral part of the unique Sufi movement in the Indian subcontinent and a symbol of compassion, tolerance and harmony, could destroy a temple to maintain his power.

The letter addressed to the PM further read that the ideological attack on this unique coordinating site is an attack on our civilizational heritage. It distorts the idea of inclusive India that you yourself want to revive." The former bureaucrats said that in this way neither can society progress nor can your dream of a developed India be realized.

The court issued a notice

Let us tell you that on November 27, a civil court in Ajmer issued a notice to the Ajmer Dargah Committee, the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). This notice was issued on the petition of Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta. The petition claimed that the Dargah was originally a Shiva temple.
