Mumbai News: Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested 4 people who were preparing for CET exam to get admission in a good college for MBA studies in Maharashtra.
Crime Branch DCP Datta Nalawade said that we received this complaint from MHCET, after which we started the investigation and arrested 4 accused from Delhi. We received information that 72 students were contacted by some people claiming to help them score good percentage in the Maharashtra CET exam and demanded 15 to 20 lakh rupees from them for doing so.
Complaint lodged at Azad Maidan Police Station
Nalawade further said that the State CET Cell also formed an internal committee in this matter and investigated, after which a complaint was lodged at Azad Maidan Police Station in Mumbai, after which further investigation in the case was given to the Crime Branch.
Investigation revealed that out of the four arrested accused, two are third year students of NIT Delhi, one is preparing for UPSC and the other is a graduate in Biology.
Nalawade further said that the accused used
to get the data of CET students through a hacker, after which they used to contact those students. The accused used to tell the students to choose districts like Beed, Jalna, Gondia, and Yavatmal while selecting the examination center for the exam.
Sources said that during investigation we have got information that perhaps the accused might have managed those examination centres or they might have taken control of the computers of the examination centre using Team Viewer and then used to write the answers of the paper with the help of other expert students in Delhi.
According to the initial information, the accused have earlier helped students who appeared for CET exam for admission in law college in a similar way. The police is investigating the matter as to how these accused were tampering with such a big system. Who is the hacker with them?
'To hack the system, the IP address must be known'
An official said that the CET exam is conducted over VPN and this is done so that no one can hack that system. To hack any system, the IP address of that system must be known, but by using VPN the hacker does not get the IP address of that system, which makes it difficult to hack it.
