A controversy has erupted over the singing of RSS' 'Gana Geetham' (prayer song) during a musical concert organised at a temple managed by Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) at Kottukkal in Kollam district of Kerala. Congress has demanded strict action against the culprits in the matter. The song was performed by members of a professional music troupe during a 'Gana Mela' (music concert) organised at the temple on Sunday morning.
Accused of putting RSS flags in the temple premises
According to the police, it is also alleged that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) flags were put up on the temple premises in connection with the festival. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly V D Satheeshan said the singing of 'RSS Ganageetham' during the temple festival was a "matter of grave concern" and urged the TDB to take immediate and strict action against those responsible.
What did the opposition say?
V D Satheeshan said in a statement that this violation happened in a temple managed by TDB despite the high court ruling that temples should not be used for political events. He said, the Devaswom Board and the government should be ready to take immediate and firm action against those involved. Temples belong to the devotees, politicising temple premises and festivals shows a narrow mindset.
