Gujarat News : The Special Operations Group (SOG) in Gujarat's Amreli district, in collaboration with the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), on Tuesday (22 October) busted a milk adulteration racket. This racket was operating in the Mityala area. The officials seized the adulterated milk and arrested a suspect Gunwant Shamji Kalsaria along with material worth Rs 2.21 lakh.

Adulterated milk was being packed in plastic bags for sale. This is a new case of making fake goods in Gujarat, in which fake ghee, cheese was being made. Court officials and even IPS officers are involved in this adulteration game. FDCA has increased food inspection before Diwali. During this time, cases of food safety violations often increase.

Milk sample was sent for testing

The milk sample has been sent to Gandhinagar for testing. In a series of drives against food adulteration, the FDCA of Gujarat is actively seizing and destroying large quantities of adulterated milk and milk products across the state. In February 2024, FDCA officials seized and destroyed about 10,000 liters of adulterated milk worth Rs 4.17 lakh in Palanpur and Gandhinagar. The milk adulterated with maltodextrin powder was being supplied to a firm based in Palanpur.

Products worth Rs 8 crore

Under the campaign, the FDCA also seized adulterated paneer in suspicious quantities. In May 2024, the FDCA seized 1,07,122 kg of adulterated milk and milk products along with 34,498 kg of adulterated ghee. The value of these products is around Rs 8.03 crore and the adulterated milk was traded over a period of ten months. The milk supplied by various vendors was being used to make milk products and sweets for commercial sale.

In August 2022, FDCA officials seized a truck carrying 4,000 litres of adulterated milk at a checkpoint in Rajkot. Upon examination, it was found that the milk was made up of harmful chemicals such as sulphate, phosphate and carbonate oil, which pose significant health risks to consumers.
