New Delhi. The development of rural areas and work related to the interests of the people living in rural areas may be included as a priority in the agenda of the new NDA government led by BJP. In such a situation, some changes can also be seen in the agriculture related schemes of the government. The reason behind this possibility is that the party's performance in the Lok Sabha seats in rural areas has been weak this time compared to the year 2019.

According to the figures that have come out so far, out of 398 rural Lok Sabha seats, BJP has won 165 seats this time, whereas in the year 2019 it had won 236 seats. On the other hand, Congress has won 75 seats, whereas five years ago it had won 31 seats. If we talk about the entire NDA, then in the year 2024 it has faced defeat in 44 rural Lok Sabha seats as compared to the year 2019. On the other hand, INDIAA has won a total of 77 seats.

This is possible despite being away from absolute majority

Economic research agency Motilal Oswal has said in its report released on Wednesday that despite being away from absolute majority, it is possible that the new central government will carry forward the agenda of PM Narendra Modi's second term. Looking at the kind of election results the BJP has received, we also hope that some populist policies may be announced to overcome the crisis in rural areas and poverty.

HDFC said this in its review report

Similarly, HDFC has said in its review report released on the election results that after the election results, it now seems that the NDA government will have to focus more on increasing investment and consumption. Whereas in the second term of PM Modi, more attention has been given to infrastructure projects. The focus on infrastructure projects may decrease slightly compared to earlier.

After Covid, the demand situation in the urban areas of the country improved

The report further says that the focus of the new government will be on improving the condition of rural areas and increasing consumption among low-income families. It should be noted that during the last few years, many economic reports have stated that after Covid, the demand situation in the urban areas of the country has improved but the consumption situation in the rural area did not improve for a long time. Inflation, unemployment and almost stagnation in agricultural income have been blamed for this.

Demand increased in rural areas as well

Now RBI has said in its recently released monthly report of May, 2024 that demand has started increasing in rural areas as well. According to the report of economic research agency NielsenIQ, there has been a continuous decline in rural consumption from the year 2021 to the first quarter of the year 2023. However, the BJP government has been claiming that a lot of attention has been paid to the rural economy.

There has been a substantial increase in the amount given to farmers

There has been a significant increase in the amount given to farmers through programs like MNREGA, PM Kisan and Jal Jeevan Mission. On the other hand, the poor performance of BJP in rural-dominated states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab seems to indicate something else. This is the reason why economic agencies are saying that its impact will be seen on the policies of the new government.
