New Delhi: Taking a big decision to increase the income of farmers and ensure food security for the middle class, the central government has approved two schemes related to agriculture. The Center will spend more than one lakh crore rupees on these in collaboration with the states. This includes Rs 57,074.72 crore for PM Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and Rs 44,246.89 crore for Krishonnati Yojana (KY).

Two agricultural schemes

After the cabinet meeting on Thursday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the estimated expenditure of the central share in the total proposed expenditure on both the agricultural schemes (Agriculture Development Scheme and Krishonnati Scheme) would be Rs 69,088.98 crore. The share of the states would be Rs 32,232.63 crore.

Self-reliance in food security

The amount will be spent through the state governments. With this amount, the states will be able to make plans according to their needs. The PM National Agriculture Development Scheme will ensure the continuity of agriculture through limited natural resources. Along with this, self-sufficiency in food security will be achieved through the Krishonnati Yojana.

Krishonnati Yojana

The cabinet has approved the National Mission on Edible Oil Scheme worth Rs 10,103 crore to become self-sufficient in oilseeds. This is one of the nine schemes approved under the Krishonnati scheme. Under this, the central government aims to increase the production of edible oils from 1.27 crore tonnes to 2 crore tonnes by the year 2031.

increase productivity

This is a major initiative of the Centre towards achieving self-sufficiency in oilseed production, which will be implemented in the next seven years. Under this, productivity will be increased along with increasing the production area. Due to the challenges in the agriculture sector, this will be completed in mission mode.
