In an interview with India Today in 2018, Rajinikanth revealed that the signature tricks he showed on screen were not his own but were inspired by another actor. Thalaiva said that he had seen Rajinikanth tossing a cigarette in the air. He made some changes in it and made it new.

He said, 'Shatrughan Sinha was the first one to do it in a Hindi film. From there, I took it and I improved it. It is a skill but more important than that is the timing. The biggest thing to keep in mind is when you have to flick it.'

Rajinikanth further said, 'It is not like I just threw a cigarette and caught it. During the shoot, one has to deliver dialogues and in the meantime, one has to catch the thrown cigarette. I think this is natural, it is not a style but fans think that this is my style.

Rajinikanth is going to return to the film screen very soon through Jailor 2. The first part of Jailor was launched on 10 August in the year 2023. The film had a net India collection of 343.72 crores
