Prayagraj. A seminar on 'Right to Information' was organized in Sir PCB hostel of Allahabad University. The chief guest in this seminar was State Information Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh Virendra Pratap Singh (Vatsa). He interacted with the students on the topic related to Right to Information and tested the awareness of the students on Right to Information.
On this occasion, Virendra Pratap Singh said that the Right to Information is a strong watchdog of democracy. The Right to Information promotes transparency, a sense of responsibility, and public participation in governance and administration. It has an important role in curbing corruption. Every citizen of India can seek information from government departments. He said that a common citizen has the same right to ask for information as an MP in Parliament and an MLA in the Assembly. Right to Information is a great medium for the empowerment of citizens. Public Information Officers have been appointed in all departments of the government to provide information.
It is the responsibility of the Public Information Officers to provide the desired information to the appellant within 30 days. If the Public Information Officer provides the correct information at the right time, it means that everything is going well in his department. If the Public Information Officer hesitates to provide information, it sends a message to the public that something is wrong.
