Rizwan Qadri, a member of the Prime Minister's Museum and Library (PMML) Society, has written a letter to the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.

He has written a letter requesting to return the documents. He said that these documents are important aspects of India's history and they were allegedly taken back from the museum on the orders of senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi did not reply to the letter

He said, In September 2024, I wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi requesting that 51 cartoons from about eight different volumes, which were part of the Nehru Collection in the Prime Minister's Museum (formerly Nehru Memorial), be either returned to the institution or we be allowed to scan them or be provided with scanned copies of them. This will facilitate us to study them and do research by various scholars.

Rizwan Qadri said, "These include important correspondence between Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Lady Mountbatten as well as letters exchanged with Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, Jayaprakash Narayan and others. These letters are an important part of Indian history and this has been proved by the records removed from the museum in 2008 on the instructions of Sonia Gandhi.

He also said that after not getting any reply from Sonia Gandhi, he wrote another letter in this regard to the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.

Now Qadri has written a letter to Rahul Gandhi

"Since there was no response from them, I have requested the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi to help me get these materials back. I have also urged him to consider that these documents are part of the country's heritage and an important aspect of India's history. Unless we see these materials, we cannot find out the reason for their withdrawal. There must have been some objectionable material behind their removal," Qadri said.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sambit Patra also reacted to it, saying it was "interesting".

Patra said on X, from what is today the Prime Minister Museum and Library and was earlier the Nehru Museum and Library, the then UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi took away 51 cartoons of letters written by Nehru to various personalities including "Edwina Mountbatten"! At the recently concluded AGM of PMML, one of the members, Rizwan Qadri wrote a letter to the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi seeking his help in getting the letters back from his mother Sonia Gandhi!

Sambit Patra raised questions

The BJP MP said, it is interesting for me to know what Nehru ji might have written to Edwina Mountbatten that needed to be censored and whether the Leader of Opposition Rahul will help in bringing back the letters between Nehru and Edwina!

The Nehru Museum Memorial and Library, located in the Teen Murti complex in New Delhi, was the official residence of the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and was established in his memory as an autonomous institution under the Union Ministry of Culture.
